When it comes to staying fit and healthy, diet is only one piece of the jigsaw. Encouraging your family to stay active and take regular exercise is also important in allowing you to balance energy in (from food) and energy out (for activity).

The good news is that the more active you are, the more energy you use up, giving you more freedom to choose a greater variety of foods.

You should aim to do at least 30 minutes of exercise or physical activity on 5 days of each week - you can do three ten minute bursts, two 15 minute bursts or one 30 minute session.

Making small changes to your normal routine such as getting off the bus one stop early and walking part of the way home or taking the stairs rather than a lift can make a big difference.

Some practical tips:
If you haven't done any exercise before, take it easy when you first start
Choose something you enjoy and that fits in with your lifestyle
Try to include your family and friends in exercise - not only is it good for them, it also makes it more fun.
