| Are you stuck in a food rut? |
 |
|
You've probably heard the saying 'variety is the spice of life' but did you know it's also key to a healthy diet? |
  |
You need a certain amount of calories to keep your body functioning and provide energy for physical activities. The secret to healthy eating is to balance the food you eat over the course of the day. On the days when your main meals are healthy and balanced and you're physically active you can afford to be a little more indulgent and have the occasional treat. |
|
Ways to Be treatwise: |
1 |
Think about how a treat fits into the bigger picture of what you and your family should be eating during the day and refer to your GDAs |
2 |
Balance your energy in (from food) with your energy out (from exercise) by trying to be active for at least 30 minutes a day |
3 |
Size matters, if you or your child want a piece of chocolate, allow it, but be smart about how much you have. Most varieties now come in small bars or mini-packets |
4 |
Allow treats in moderation. It's important you and your family know about the importance of having a balanced diet |
5 |
Make the most of your treats – eat them slowly and really enjoy the flavour |
6 |
Don't forget to treat yourself and your family in other ways, like going swimming or to the park. |
