Consumer research has shown that people understand that chocolate and sweets are treats that should be enjoyed sensibly - but a gentle reminder would help them think about eating treats as part of a balanced lifestyle.
When you're thinking about treats it's important to consider their nutritional content, for example flip over to the back of pack to find the easy-to-read panel clearly indicating how much the product contributes to your GDA for calories, sugars, fat, saturates and salt.
Choosing a healthy diet doesn't have to mean giving up the foods you enjoy.
If you get the right energy and nutrient balance and make sure your diet contains plenty of fruit and vegetables, together with wholegrain carbohydrates and a modest amount of protein and fat, there's room for you to enjoy a variety of foods, including treats. But it's important to remember that treats should remain treats and should not replace main meals.
